Louis & Nathan of the Royal College of Arts are walking the South Downs the South Downs Way videoing and interviewing people on the way, as the principle thread of their main project.

Alan Wheeler has agreed to meet them at the Royal Oak, Wineham 6.30 for 7.00PM,  with a small group of singers to sing a few songs, and discuss the historical background, and singers individual interest & motivation in helping to conserve them by performance.

Alan would welcome participation by any singers who can make it, at albeit short notice.

What a fantastic turnout!

Here are a couple of pictures taken by Adrian of the first SDFS gig of this year.

Singers 'flocked' from all parts of Sussex to perform in the Spring sunshine in Chichester on 6th April.

The singers' performances were interspersed with songs specially written and performed by Ann and her son as part of the 'Sheep and Shepherding' celebration which had been organised by Chichester Museum / WDOAM / South Downs National Park.

I would like to put out a personal thank you to all those who came along yesterday. By the way where were the sheep?

Can I also remind folk about the 1880 Costume Day next Saturday (13th) at Worthing?

Dear Singers, 

Below you will find the song list for the event decided on Wednesday night.

We will start the proceedings at 12.00hrs ( please arrive at the cross by 11.45) with the enclosed list of songs-- then Ann & No.1 Son will perform their 3 newly composed songs.
This will be repeated for two further times, making three joint performances in all, during the 2 hours between 12.00 & 14.00hrs.

For those of you that need/want to practice any of the above songs go to the SDFS Blog Events listing and find  the 2nd April entry.
There is a link to Adrian Reviell's recordings on Sound Cloud of the March 23rd at Burpham together with both of the 2 earlier group recording  sessions, giving you most of the songs as eventually performed.
Remember to wrap up warm, and that we have a refuge in the foyer of the Chichester Museum if the weather turns pear shaped.

A BIG THANKS

Dear All

Firstly a big thank you and congratulations to all those people who sang their hearts out at Burpham on Saturday 23rd. It was a great day and the songs sound really good - Adrian has put them on sound cloud. We hope that the CDs will be available within the next three weeks or so - but we will keep you informed. The next Beechwood practice is tomorrow (3rd April) and it has a specific purpose: to run through the songs that the South Downs Folk Singers will be singing at the Cross at Chichester on Saturday (6th April), 

12 noon - 2pm. Ann will also be singing three new songs that she has written with our son, Samuel - and very good they are too! If the weather is not good, the event will be held at the Novium Museum (opposite Chichester Library).

PS Ann writes: Thank you so much all you lovely people who raised a staggering £439.28 for the Morning Star Orphanage in Mamallapurum in India. It was a massive achievement that will go a long way towards helping to buy food, clothes, and other basics to help this family-run orphanage and school during the next twelve months..
